The first time I heard about the rundown it didn’t sound as something I’d like, but taste is a funny thing and when it comes to food you just have to taste your way to the descision. Sometimes things that sound as if the would clash (like strawberries and chilli) make excellent taste fusions. A rundown is basically a mix of coconut, plantains and veggies and it can also contain chicken or shrimps. This is a quick version where we use Walkerswoods Rundown Sauce to make it. Ingredients: 2 s

慈航中西健康素食 Located at a shophouse near Aljunied MRT station, as the name suggests, this vegetarian cafe serves western fast food (burgers, pizzas, pastas) as well as Chinese vegetarian (I would think more Taiwanese style) . It has daily organic brown rice set as well as special of the day among its menu. Today, I tried its special of the day: 上海拉面 Shanghai Noodles which is actually 白玉面 (a type of noodles known as White Jade noodles bec it looked white & smooth after cooking) cooked dry with

Now, I've tried my hand at spinning. In fact, I've tried really, really hard--I guess I'm just not born to spin. Before you feel sorry for me, I've had some very nice, very skilled spinners take me under their wing and try to teach me. Nope, I'm hopeless. Which is why I admire spinners so much! One special example is Carolyn in Canada! Her shop motto is: Do you baloo? Fiber, Fur, Wood....Touchable Treasure Please, let me tell you a little about what Carolyn does. Part of her shop's business

If all the governments give us the blessing and encourage more because we have only several years to change the course of history of climate change. And I’m happy that many governments now are encouraging children to eat vegetarian, more vegetable, less meat and more vegetable. And I’m so happy, maybe we can still save the planet. Just so this isn't a pictureless post (and to contradict myself) this isn't yesterday's news. It's the East Coast Coffee Cake (chocolate and raspberry style) from Isa's upcoming brunch cookbook. I made it yesterday for today's breakfast and we ate 1/2 of it last night. If you'd been here when it was fresh out of the oven, we would have passed you a fork. It's fantastic. Don't think this is going to bump off Ash's Cinnamon Swirl Loaf, which I love and make way too often. I'm just adding this

This lecture by author, and Berkeley professor, Michael Pollan, is the longest video I've ever posted on Foodwishes. I was scanning the usual sites for some funny weekend filler content, and I came across this. The best book, by far, I read last year was called The Omnivore's Dilemma. It was a fascinating, scary, provocative, disturbing read, and for the first time I really started to think about all the "factory food" we consume. This lecture filmed at Google, focuses mostly on Michael's new bo

Mason and I are forming a little group called the Vegan Potluck Society. We're having our first East Dallas vegan potluck at 6:00PM on Monday, May 26th at Tietze Park. I've set up a separate blog for all of the details, but I'll probably have lots of tasty vegan food porn to post here after the potluck. If you're in or near Dallas, definitely try to come!

Today: 7.5 miles (with 2-minute speed intervals for 50 minutes); 10 minutes of planks and oblique twists; stretching Last summer was not a great one for me as a runner and athlete. My weight had gotten scarily low over the school year, but I continued to run - I would slog out around 3 or 4 miles a day, totally burnt out and tired, but unable to stop. I still can’t even pinpoint why the compulsion to keep running without resting or taking time off to get healthy occurred in the first place. I

The girls really dig these green smoothies, assuming they're chocolate. Ingredients usually include: frozen banana, dried medjool dates, soy milk, cocoa powder, vanilla extract, flax seeds, frozen berries, ice water, and a half a bag of frozen spinach. We whir it all together with a Vitamix. I'm not sure whether a regular blender could deal with all the frozen fruit. If you can wrap your mind around the bright grass green color, the smoothie really is yummy.

Raw Food food, health, photo, vegan/veggie/ar No Comments » This past week, we’ve been eating a lot of raw food. But I’ve failed to take pictures of most of it. I already had Raw Food Made Easy by Jennifer Cornbleet. I chose it as my first little step into raw because it seemed like most of the recipes could be made without any crazy kitchen equipment. I don’t think I’ve even seen a recipe call for a dehydrator yet. And my blender, crappy as it is, has been able to handle everything put to it
