Day 202. Swiss chard! In a soup! I don't really have anything other than that to say. This recipe came from my new friend, Astrid, who grows a lot of chard in her garden, and needed a way to use it up. So we crockpotted the chard. The Ingredients. --2 big bunches of swiss chard, chopped (I only chopped the green part and gave the stems to the guinea pigs)--1 cup baby carrots, chopped--1 onion, chopped--7 baby red potatoes, or equivalent, chopped--5 cloves of garlic, chopped--1/4 cup fresh b

People have different reasons for writing blogs.    Some think that they have something really important to say and that other people would be grateful to read about it.  Others think that they do something relatively well and other people would be grateful if the blogger would teach them how to do it.  I suppose there is also a third group of writers who just have an urge to put things down on paper and whether or not anyone would actually read it is irrelevant.   I don’t fit into a

The company I work with has embraced healthy living for the last six months—enrolled almost all employees in a breathing course that improves cellular oxidation, some basic yoga, non-smoking policy, and vegetarian diet (preferred). This is actually not something they required out of the blue. Studies and health literatures are backing this up. Cognitive nutrition, on The Economist.

Cooking chunky soups and stews are all too easy when using one and they tenderize meat perfectly. Because higher temperatures are reached inside the pressure cooker while cooking, the food is finished being cooked much quicker. But, not all pressure cookers are created equal. Are you using your mother’s old rundown pot? Isn’t it time for you to get a new one? I’m sure there are some good memories of some of the delicious dishes you’ve prepared with it. But new pressure cookers have so many more

Nick wrote an interesting post today on Here’s a quick excerpt Is a soup supposed to be blended? I know there are so many types of soups (just look at how many French terms are for soup: bouillon, consommé, velouté, moulinée, bisque, potage, vichyssoise…only to name a few) and still this question has been bugging me for quite a while. Seedlings of flat-leaf parsley, planted at the tail end of summer, have, halfway through winter, become forests. Which is a stroke of luck, really. It’s the one thing that I seem to be able to grow rather well. Other things – the pennywort I wanted so badly; the stubby bushes of rosemary that will not even try – are moving at the proverbial snail's pace, but the parsley, it is unstoppable. Lush forests of greenery that sit close to the back door so that I can slip out, feet un-shod, to grab a

Had my highest calorie day yet, and probably my lowest amount of exercise. Just sat around watching movies on TV and munching...at least it was mostly good food (nearly 2500 calories of it!) Oh well, I deserve a high-cal day after two months of restricting my eats.

In the south we make the best iced tea you’ll find. Maybe it’s how it’s done, or maybe it is the water in the south, or maybe it’s just that a southern boy has put a lot of TLC into making the tea. Who knows! Given I’m in NYC and it’s summer, the humidity is 90% and the temperature is 90, (it reminds me of Houston.) And the best way to coo of is with iced tea, sweet iced tea… Ingredients Quan Meas Ingredient Comment 6 Ea Large Tea bags Luzianne Tea Bags if available 8 Cup Water Use

As the years have gone by we have devoloped from summer barbequing to year round. It is an easy, simple way of cooking and so so delicious .The beauty about a dry rub is that it requires virtually no marinating . My suggestion is to Smear olive oil on the clean dry meat or poultry and coat in the dry rub. Allow meat to rest, refridgerated for 15 minutes on a rack and 15 minutes at room temperature, viola you are ready for the grill. 1/2 teaspoon dry sage 1 teaspoon dry Rosemary 2 tablespoon

Most people either love or hate avocados, there does not seem to be any in between. I love them and my husband hates them -- but that just means there's always more for me :) While avocados contain more fat than your typical fruit, they're not as bad as some people make them out to be. They are high in monounsaturated fatty acids, which can help to lower your cholesterol, and half of an avocado is equal to one serving of fruit (you should be eating 4-5 servings of fruit each day). My husband t
