vitamins and supplements - synthetic (w animal testing) vs organic?

Posted by myorganicfamily on May 3, 2007 - 11:20am

I reached an interesting link at the Organic Consumers Assoc website.

source: http://www.organicconsumers.org/articles/article_4607.cfm

As I understand it around 98% of world wide vitamins and minerals supplements are manufactured by 1 to 3 companies.

In the US and Canada most are actually synthetic chemical concoctions that contain coal tar, preservatives, artificial colorings, and a vast range of other potentially harmful additives. (I read, laws are that all synthetic chemicals must be tested on animals !? if so they are not vegan)

So what the Organic community is trying to do is to influence and build awareness and asking for 'truth in labeling', to enable consumers to distinguish between those vitamins and supplements that are truly natural and organic (certified organic is best as it is audited). I think this is a great and wonderful idea.

Bo Kong Vegetarian Restaurant, March 1st, 2007 - Free Vancouver Vegetarian Community Event

Posted by nshb on February 4, 2007 - 1:58am

VanVeg has had a tremendous growth over the last couple years, and I, Nathaniel, would like to thank all the new friends of mine that made it happen. There have been lots of new faces, each event gets a bigger and bigger turnout, and as we fly into 2007, we start the year off with what I hope to be our biggest event yet to be held at Bo Kong.

The restaurant is renown for it's vegetarian food that can satisfy even the most avid carnivore friends of ours while having a taste of the vegetarian life.

That being said, I invite you to join the members of VanVeg for this free event. You simply pay for what you decide to eat and drink. There is no entrance fee, membership fee, or any other sort of fee to come enjoy a night out with us for any VanVeg event.

When: Thursday, March 1st, 2007 - 6:00pm
Where: Bo Kong Vancouver, 3068 Main Street
Who: Anyone and everyone (vegetarian/vegan or not!)
How much?: Free! You only pay for what you eat and/or drink

Please RSVP for this event here. If you don't you may find yourself without a seat (or even source someone else without a seat!)

VanVeg Special Event on Sat, August 19th @ Radha Yoga & Eatery (50% off entree's)

Posted by nshb on July 22, 2006 - 11:24am

This is one of the best events yet. Radha is offering VanVeg members a 2 for 1 discount for this dine-out, and with the last event at the Naam being the largest yet, this one is sure to be packed.

The last event was excellent, everyone that went had an excellent time, and as I have heard so far on the reviews, the discussions were very diverse.

The amazing people at Radha Yoga & Eatery have been extremely generous, and have given me a number of 2 for 1 entree tickets for this event. Enough so that everyone that comes will be able to split the cost with someone else.

We welcome you to join us for this special event and try out the menu at this new venue. Hope to see you there!

The time has changed for our Dine-out this Saturday at the Naam to 6pm

Posted by nshb on July 7, 2006 - 12:48pm

I just called the Naam, and I we spoke about how it would be best to organize us to get the table with all of us sitting together, and we need to all show up for 6pm.

I will be there a bit earlier to get the table booked, but unfortunately they will only hold the table for 15minutes, so if you can, please show up a bit early if possible.

See you all there!

Radha Yoga and Eatery hours have changed

Posted by nshb on July 1, 2006 - 2:28pm

radha yoga & eatery is a combination yoga centre and vegan eatery. The eatery recently opened for dinners Thursdays through Saturdays from 6 – 10 pm. Live music (singer-songwriters, world music groups, crystal bowls, electronic) is performed once a week, usually Friday nights. Lunches are served from 11:30 – 3:30 weekdays.

The eatery will be featured as “the most interesting vegetarian restaurant in Vancouver” in an upcoming Food Services & Hospitality magazine. The new dinner menu, created by head chef, Kali Saltibus, features delicately blended southeast Asian flavors—including a wonderful adaptation of pad thai, featured in the winter 2005 Food Issue of ascent magazine—and extraordinary Western alternatives, such as tofu steaks with a peppercorn sauce. An array of organic salads, appetizers, varieties of organic iced teas, fresh juices, local beer and organic BC wines complement the entrees. For dessert try whole fruit iced dream or an organic fresh fruit of the day crumble.
